The mantle is the second layer of the Earth's interior.  This layer of hot, solid rock makes up the bulk of Earth and is about 2,900 km thick! (that's about 1,800 miles!!!

If you tunneled to the center of the Earth you would experience an extreme change in pressure.  The deeper you traveled, the greater the pressure from the surrounding rock.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is a 2008 American 3-D science fiction adventure film starring Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson, and Anita Briem. It refers to and may be considered a 21st-century sequel to the 19th-century novel of the same name by Jules Verne. It is the first film in the Journey film series.

plot:
On a quest to find out what happened to his missing brother, a scientist, his nephew and their mountain guide discover a fantastic and dangerous lost world in the center of the earth
