Bob Marley Statue in Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Ocho Rios
Jamaica

featuring a statue of Bob Marley (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981)

- - - - - - -

The Bob Marley Statue in Island Village is an artistic interpretation of Marley, sculpted by Jamaican Sculpture Christopher Gonzales. The statue portrays Marley growing from the ground, like a tree. His legs blending in to a trunk shape at the base, his dreadlocks joining with the roots of the tree and Marley is holding his microphone stand like a staff. Gonzales is quoted as saying that "the symbolism of the tree trunk from which the figure emerges represents Marley's ascent from the ghetto into international acclaim with the music he created".

The Bob Marley statue had a long and controversial life before finding a home in Island Village. Christopher Gonzales' statue was originally commissioned to stand outside of the national stadium in Kingston, to commemorate the death of the reggae legend. However, the public (and the Marley family) did not take well to Gonzales' artistic interpretation of Bob Marley and were highly vocal in their criticism. The statue was swiftly removed from its spot outside of the national stadium and the Jamaican Government commissioned Alvin Marriott to sculpt a replacement. Marriott's interpretation was more true-to-life and met with the approval of the Jamaican public; it can still be found occupying the spot outside the national stadium.

Gonzales' Statue was moved to the National Gallery in Kingston, where it was displayed for nearly 20 years. The statue was moved to Island Village in Ocho Rios on National Heroes Day 2002, originally on a one year loan. The statue remains there to this day.

Dr. Who: Time and The Rani

Doctor Who
No 9 in a 2nd series of 18
Time and The Rani
1996

- - - - - - -

Time and the Rani is the first serial of the 24th season in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in four weekly parts from 7 September to 28 September 1987. (Doctor Who first appeared on BBC television on 23 November 1963.)

This story was the first to feature Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor. It also features the last appearance of the Sixth Doctor, also portrayed by McCoy for this episode only. The Sixth Doctor was originally portrayed by Colin Baker, who refused to return for this episode.

(on a side note:  Sylvester McCoy also played the wizard Radagast the Brown in Peter Jackson's film adaptations of The Hobbit.)

Plot:
While in flight, the TARDIS (a police box time machine and spacecraft) is attacked by the evil Rani, (played by Kate O'Mara) a renegade Time Lady. The TARDIS crash-lands on the planet Lakertya. On the floor of the console room, the Doctor begins his sixth regeneration. In his post-regenerative confusion the Doctor is separated from his young companion Mel Bush and tricked into assisting the Rani in her megalomaniac scheme to construct a giant time manipulator. Lost on the barren surface of the planet, Mel has to avoid the Rani's ingenious traps and her monstrous, bat-like servants, the Tetraps. She joins forces with a rebel faction among the Lakertyans, desperate to end the Rani's control of their planet. The Doctor must recover his wits in time to avoid becoming a permanent part of the Rani's plan to collect the genius of the greatest scientific minds in the universe, of which she has captured many including Einstein, in order that she can create a time manipulator, which would allow the Rani to control time anywhere in the universe, at the expense of all life on Lakertya. The Doctor manages to foil her plan and free the Lakertyans of her evil control. The Rani escapes in her TARDIS, but it has been commandeered by the Tetraps, who take her prisoner. The Doctor takes all the captured geniuses on board his TARDIS so that he can return them home.

Television Series: The Walking Dead, Autographed by Michael Koske

The Walking Dead

Michael Koske as a Walker (he autographed it for me at MegaCon 2013 in Orlando, Florida)

The back of this autographed print was blank, so I added a few stamps and mailed it to my PO Box to make it a postcard.  I used some vintage stamps that looked like a boy looking a two zombies!  Granted, it is the spirit of 76, but still ..... what do you think??

- - - - - - -

Michael Koske is an American actor who portrayed numerous walkers on AMC's The Walking Dead, including Callaway.
He is living and working in Middle Georgia. His zombie likenesses have graced the pages of Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, The Walking Dead Official Magazine, the cover of The Ultimate Guide to Zombies, Rolling Stone Magazine, and most recently, the cover of TV Guide.

- - -

The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series. It is based on the comic book series of the same. The series stars Andrew Lincoln as sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes, who awakens from a coma to find a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating "walkers", resembling zombies. He sets out to find his family and encounters many other survivors along the way. The title of the series refers to the survivors, and not the zombies.
